Dominique Di Piazza (France) - Electric Bass

Born in Lyon/France in 1959 with Sicilian origins but raised among the gipsys, In 1979 Dominique Di Piazza discovered the bass thanks to Jaco Pastorius in Heavy Weather. Already a self-taught guitarist, he developed on the bass guitar a distinctive technique of picking with the right hand thumb and index finger giving him a speed and precision uniquely his own. His large knowledge of Be-bop and his highly developed sense of harmony would make him a renowned bass player in the jazz music world.

Rapidly he began playing with the biggest names in the new generation of french jazz and abroad: Eric Barret, Jean-Pierre Como, Michel Perez, Louis Winsberg, Aldo Romano, Nicolas Folmer, Laurent Cugny's Big Band lumiere, Didier Lockwood, the European tour with Gil Evans, Andre Ceccarelli, Joe Di Orio, Dennis Chambers, Bireli Lagrene,Michel Petrucciani, Katia et Marielle Labeque, Bobby Thomas Jr, Donald Harrison, Danny Gottlieb, Gary Husband, Antonio Farao, Jeff Gardner, Guiseppe Continenza, Alex Acuna, Adam Nitti,Horacio "el negro" Hernandez, Norman Stockton, Gordon Beck ,Victor wooten,Lincoln Goines;Michael Manring, Yves Carbone,etc...

John Mc Laughlin Trio A member of the "John Mc Laughlin Trio" from 1991 to 1992 along with Trilok Gurtu: a world tour of 300 concerts and an album "Que Alegria". He influenced numerous bass players in Europe and the USA such as Matthew Garrison, Adam Nitti, Lucas Pickford etc...

In 2000 the group "Front Page" with Bireli Lagrene and Dennis Chambers (a European tour), a CD recording which obtained the Victory music award in 2001 for the year's best jazz CD.

In 2005 and 2006 Dominique toured in the Reunion Island,Mauritius;Madagascar, and in 10 countries in Africa with a pianist from the Reunion Island,Meddy Gerville,and Jean-Marie Ecay on guitar and the incredible drummer Horacio "el negro"Hernandez.
